Das war für die Nation vielleicht traumatisch. Zum ersten Mal seit 1814 wird das Kapitol in Washington verwüstet, diesmal aber nicht von fremden Soldaten, die auf Befehl eines feindlichen, undemokratischen Monarchen handeln. Im Gegenteil. Es sind glühende amerikanische Patrioten, vor Liebe zu „freedom and democracy“ strotzend, die in der Gewissheit zu Werke gehen, dass sie nur ihr gutes demokratisches Recht reklamieren: „four more years!“ unter der Regentschaft ihres Lieblingspräsidenten.
