The German Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) is not the only party in the world that boasts a polemical excess of patriotism.[1] Parties of this kind are successful everywhere, ones that promise to “restore” their country’s deserved top position however it is compared, to restore the position it used to have according to their philosophy of history. For these parties, this coincides with their promising their good people that they would “finally” place the nation “again” at the very top of the official government agenda that a globalized establishment conspiring with evil has driven it out from. For some such fan clubs, that is completely sufficient to take over power democratically, or at least to have good prospects of doing so. (…)
